Most virus protection software is set up to automatically install updates when they are available. If you prefer not to have the virus software to update automatically, then I would strongly recommend that you check for updates once a week. My suggestion is to have your virus software to automatically update due to the daily releases of virus on the web.
If you are referring to the Anti-Virus Software Program, most have 6 month -1 year subscriptions. They must be updated each year. We at the PC Shop would recommend that you check each year for the latest version of the software program. We provide the latest Anti-Virus programs here at the PC Shop.
If you use the computer on a daily basis, then you can set the computer to enter into Stand-By mode or Hibernate. Hibernation reduces the start time of the computer and saves the complete state of the computer and turns it off. The Standby feature slows the computer down and uses less electricity. Although the computer appears to be off, the programs are still running in the back ground and will wake when you move the mouse or press the power button. The only negative of standby mode is if there is a power outage, you will lose all the unsaved data because the computer was still running the programs in the background. If this is a computer that isn’t used that often then I would say shut it down each time you are finished.
